Summary
Western Victoria Primary Health Network is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation. Its core function is to use its knowledge and understanding of local health and health care needs to:
- Support general practice (including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations)
- Commission or purchase locally needed services
- Integrate local services and systems.
First Nations health is one of our seven priority areas and is a significant focus for the organisation.
This submission examines systemic injustice experienced by First Peoples in health and healthcare including funding and reporting requirements as a barrier to self-determination; the need for culturally safer non-First Nations health services and a review of funding arrangements; and the need to address institutional racism.
