Position Details

Yoorrook Justice Commission is the first formal truth-telling process into injustices experienced by First Peoples in Victoria. Yoorrook has been established as an independent Royal Commission under the Inquiries Act 2014. See here the Letters Patent that set out Yoorrook’s mandate.

In the role of Executive Assistant, you will work closely with Commissioners and the CEO. You will provide secretariat, administration and coordination support to the Chairperson and Commissioners. You will be a dynamic individual who can multi-task and who anticipates the needs of all Commissioners.

You will have extensive experience and demonstrate high-level of organisation coupled with strong service delivery skills, excellent communication and relationship management, cultural awareness and the ability to work cooperatively with Commissioners and all staff.

This is a fixed-term role until 31 December 2024 with the possibility of 6-month extension. Yoorrook Justice Commission will run until June 2025 after being granted a 12-month extension by the Victorian government on 04 April 2023. The final six months of Yoorrook’s operations will aim to ensure that the stories and truths shared by First Peoples are not only recorded but understood by all Victorians.

About You

Yoorrook’s Letters Patent requires it to prioritise the employment of First Peoples.

You will be highly experienced in executive support through various means including the prioritisation and management of emails, coordination of schedules, diary management and by screening and attending to a broad range of enquiries and requests, including matters of a confidential or sensitive nature. You will also be the executive support by compiling materials for Commissioners for hearings and related functions of the Commission.

You will have experience in provide secretariat and administrative support to senior leadership teams/board members. You assist in all the work-related meetings as required including room set up, distributing papers, and taking minutes, ensuring the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality.

You will ensure all content is culturally informed, upholds the highest editorial standards and adheres to Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles. You will assist with preparing correspondence and communications under the direction of the Chair, Commissioner, CEO and/or Principal Advisor to the Chair and support Commissioners to ensure smooth coordination of out of office engagements such as travel and accommodation bookings. You will be integral to build and maintain productive internal and external stakeholder relationships, including in response to Commissioner speaking requests.
