Meet truth receiver Emily Falla

Hi my name is Emily Falla and I’m a proud and strong Whadjuk/ Nyoongar/Wongi woman though I call Gadubanud Country home. I started my career in the education system as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer for Indigenous students at TAFE and in corrections before leaving to start my many years of travelling Australia and abroad. After getting married and settling on Peek Whurrong Country in Warrnambool I transferred my skills to work in health. I have always had a passion for working with community, learning and sharing our rich culture.

Through my family history and work, I have seen how the mistreatment of our people has shaped the disconnection towards mainstream services and the mistrusted and fear that has followed through the years with the stories that our people share.

I believe in the work Yoorrook is doing in this space. To help mob tell their truth in their own words to help make real change for the future, and for our little ones to know the real past of our people and our fight. We are the first true story tellers, through our dreaming to our truths our people have always told stories and I’m so honoured to be a part of this important story.

I am a truth receiver and want to help community tell their story, their truth with respect, patience, compassion and strength.
