Summary

Jesuit Social Services is a social change organisation with services and advocacy focused on: Place-based approaches and ecologial justice; justice and crime prevention; education, training and employment; mental health and wellbeing; gender justice; and settlement and community building.

This submission examines the overrepresentation of First Peoples in the criminal justice system and how effectively the criminal justice system operates. It also highlights broad reforms needed to address systemic injustice; good practices that should be adopted; and adds weight to ideas that have already been put forward in other forums.
