February 1, 2022

The Yoorrook Justice Commission (Yoorrook) has appointed interim CEO Elly Patira, First Nations woman and experienced lawyer and policy advisor.

Ms Patira’s three-month appointment will help guide the ongoing administration of Yoorrook’s historic work in investigating past and ongoing injustices experienced by Aboriginal people while the Commission recruits for a permanent CEO replacement.

Ms Patira will commence in the role on Wednesday 2 February.

Professor Eleanor Bourke, Chair of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, said this interim appointment would strengthen Victoria’s truth and justice process.

“My fellow Commissioners and I are delighted to begin work with Ms Patira, who brings with her many years’ experience as a senior government executive and lawyer, leading complex advocacy and system reform work with First Peoples across Australia”.

Yoorrook will deliver its interim report by June this year which will address key themes and include reforms and recommendations.
