The Yoorrook Justice Commission is urging all Victorians to make a submission to the state’s historic truth telling process before the deadline on November 22.
This month Yoorrook published its 400th submission, with hundreds more in process. You can view the Submission Library here.
Individuals and organisations can make a submission about past or ongoing injustice experienced by First Peoples, as well as stories of diversity, strength and resistance.
Extensive support is available for First Peoples wanting to make a submission, including free independent legal advice and wellbeing support. Those wanting assistance from a Yoorrook Truth Receiver can request support up to October 15, 2024.
Submissions and requests for assistance can be made via the Yoorrook website: yoorrook.org.au/submissions/
Deputy Chair of Yoorrook, Commissioner Sue-Anne Hunter said:
“Now is the time to tell your story as part of Victoria’s historic truth telling process.
“Every submission helps tell the true history of these lands and our shared history, and the unbroken line of injustice that began with colonisation and continues to this day.
“We also want to hear stories about the diversity, strength and resistance of First Peoples and our cultures.
“All Victorians are encouraged to take part, and extensive support is available for First Peoples who put in a request before October 15. Submissions can be made in many ways – they can be written, audio recorded or filmed. They can include a piece of artwork, historical documents and artifacts.
“Everyone has something to share. Don’t miss out on the chance to play your part, and help build a better future for all Victorians.”
