Yoorrook congratulates CEO Hugh de Kretser on his appointment as President of the Australian Human Rights Commission

The Yoorrook Justice Commission extends its heartfelt congratulations to CEO Hugh de Kretser who has been newly appointed as the President of the Australian Human Rights Commission. Mr de Kretser will step down as Yoorrook CEO on 12 July 2024.

Yoorrook Justice Commission Chair Professor Eleanor Bourke AM thanked Mr de Kretser for his significant contribution to truth telling and transformation for First Peoples in Victoria.

“On behalf of all Commissioners, I wish to thank Hugh for his tireless work over the past two years. With Hugh’s assistance, the Commission has continued to show that truth telling is a pathway towards justice. It is about creating a shared history, shaping a better future and a new relationship between First Peoples and all Victorians.

“Hugh will be greatly missed by Yoorrook’s staff and Commissioners. We are thrilled that he will be continuing his pursuit of justice and human rights for First Peoples, and indeed all Australians, in his new role at the Australian Human Rights Commission. We wish Hugh and his family every success.

“Yoorrook will shortly begin the process of recruiting a new CEO, who will assist Commissioners conclude Yoorrook’s vital truth telling work and the delivery of the Commission’s final reform report to the government and First Peoples’ Assembly in June 2025.”
