Yoorrook has been established as an independent Royal Commission under the Inquiries Act 2014. It is focusing on truth-telling and healing for First Peoples, by inquiring into historic and ongoing systemic injustices perpetrated against First Peoples in Victoria by State and non-State entities since colonisation until today. We are looking for multiple experienced community engagement people to promote and support the work of Yoorrook. This position can be worked full time or part time (2 to 4 days per week). We are looking at recruiting multiple people to fulfill 3 full time equivalent roles. This role can be worked flexibly, and we can discuss what this looks like for you. You can be based anywhere within Victoria. You will assist community members to share their truths by way of formal submissions and gathering of evidence. You will be confident in engaging with First Peoples, excellent at planning and a clear communicator.
Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the position plays an active role in the day-to-day coordination with First Peoples to arrange and support engagement opportunities with Yoorrook across Victoria e.g., Community Information Sessions, Yoorrook on Country, Community Roundtables etc.
Yoorrook’s mandate requires it to complete its work by 30 June 2025.
You must have demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities and organisations, and/or understanding and awareness of Aboriginal self-determination and cultural safety. You will have good interpersonal, written and communication and negotiation skills; including the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with others to achieve results. You will be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities within a work environment and passionate about truth and justice for First Peoples in Victoria.
This is a fixed-term role until 31 December 2024.
About You
This role will suit you if you have experience in working with Aboriginal communities and organisations, and/or understanding and awareness of Aboriginal self-determination and cultural safety.
You would possess significant experience and a proven track record in relationship management skills, with an ability to bring internal and external stakeholders along in support of positive organisational outcomes.
